Vehicle Rental Taxes

On December 11,2023 , the mayor Mario B. Avery and City Council approved the rental car excise tax Ordinance 2023-10 Rental Car Excise Tax. Business located with the City Of Fairburn which rent or lease motor vehicles designed to carry ten or fewer passengers for a period of 31 consecutive days or less are required to collect excise taxes. These excise taxes are required to be remitted to the City of or before the 20th day of each month, for the preceding calendar month, accompanied by a completed Vehicle Rental Tax Return.

When paid on or before the 20th of the month, the licensee may deduct and retain three percent of the tax collected as a vendor’s credit. Failure to pay by the due date will result in the loss of the vendor’s credit and incur penalties and interest as detailed on the tax return form.
