School Zone Cameras

The City of Fairburn is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our school zones by reducing the number of speeding vehicles, thereby decreasing the likelihood of crashes and injuries, especially those involving children. This school zone safety program includes Campbell Elementary School and Landmark Christian School.

In collaboration with Blue Line Solutions, LLC, the Fairburn Police Department has developed a comprehensive program focused on safety, education, and information.

Our goal in Fairburn is to achieve 100% compliance and ensure the safety of all students and pedestrians.

Together, we can make our school zones safer for everyone. Thank you for your support and cooperation in this important initiative.

Why School Zone Cameras?

School zones are critical areas where the safety of our young students is of utmost importance. Despite clear signage and reduced speed limits, speeding continues to be a concern. To address this, Fairburn is utilizing modern digital cameras and proven violation detection technology to monitor and deter speeding in these high-risk areas.

How Do They Work?

The cameras will be operational during the following times, in accordance with Georgia Law:

  • One hour before the school day begins
  • During school hours
  • One hour after the school day ends

These cameras will capture any speeding violations within the designated school zones, helping to enforce speed limits and encourage safer driving behaviors.

Locations

The school zone cameras will be strategically placed at:

  • Campbell Elementary School
  • Landmark Christian School

By focusing on these locations, we aim to create a safer environment for students, parents, and school staff.

30-Day Warning Period

The City of Fairburn is introducing a new automated photo speed enforcement program as part of our 2024 School Zone Safety Initiative. This initiative aims to significantly reduce speeding and enhance the safety of our children in school zones. The program begins with a 30-day warning period starting on Monday, November 4, 2024.

During the initial warning period, drivers who exceed the speed limit in school zones will receive mailed warnings that include a photo of the violation, along with the date, time, and recorded speed. This approach ensures fairness and transparency as we work to create safer school zones.

Live enforcement will begin on Wednesday, December 4. After this date, citations will be issued to violators, including a $100 fine for speeds exceeding the limit by 10 mph or more. Repeat violations will incur a $150 penalty, underscoring the importance of safe driving near our schools.

Our Commitment to Safety

The implementation of these cameras is a part of our broader effort to enhance road safety and protect our community’s most vulnerable members. We believe that these measures will significantly reduce speeding in school zones and prevent potential accidents.

Stay Informed

We encourage all residents and visitors to stay informed about the new school zone cameras and to always drive safely, especially in school zones. Your cooperation is essential in making Fairburn a safer place for everyone.
