Fairburn Embarks on Ambitious Connectivity & Gateway Initiative: Your Chance to Shape the Future

The City of Fairburn is inviting residents, business owners, and stakeholders to participate in an exciting opportunity to envision the future of its downtown corridor. The Connectivity and Gateway Livable Cities Initiative (LCI) Design Workshop, scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, promises to be a dynamic forum for community collaboration and innovation.

Hosted at 314 NW Broad Street, Suite 115, this interactive event will run from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, featuring engaging presentations at 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The workshop offers participants the chance to directly influence the city’s efforts to enhance connectivity, promote sustainable growth, and create a vibrant downtown for all to enjoy.

A Vision for Fairburn’s Future

The City of Fairburn, supported by a $200,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission’s (ARC) Livable Centers Initiative, is spearheading the Connectivity and Gateway LCI Study. This comprehensive plan aims to transform the downtown corridor into a hub where residents and visitors can seamlessly live, work, and play.

Central to the initiative is the focus on the Education Campus, home to Georgia Military College and Brenau University, which serves as a key entry point to the revitalized downtown. The study also highlights opportunities for redevelopment in nearby underutilized parcels, including a former restaurant site.

Goals of the Livable Cities Initiative

The Connectivity and Gateway project aligns with the overarching goals of the ARC’s Livable Centers Initiative, which has been instrumental in reshaping metropolitan Atlanta communities for over two decades. Key objectives include:

  • Enhanced Connectivity: Expanding access to diverse transportation modes, including walking, biking, and public transit.
  • Mixed-Use Development: Encouraging the creation of inclusive neighborhoods that blend housing, employment, retail, and recreational opportunities.
  • Sustainability: Advocating for smart growth strategies that reduce traffic, improve air quality, and protect natural resources.
  • Community Engagement: Fostering inclusive participation to ensure the vision reflects the needs of all stakeholders.

Why Your Input Matters

“This is an exciting time for Fairburn,” said city officials. “By working together, we can craft a downtown that reflects the aspirations of our residents and creates new opportunities for growth and connection.” Attendees will have the chance to share ideas, provide feedback, and collaborate with city planners and design experts to shape the initiative.
